Idealogy

Same ideas/geists, but different phrasing/definitions, nearly caused an argument (of sorts) today abt churches. True, it was a discussion or debate, but albeit a pretty heated one at times

Sometimes the play of words, or the over-focus on exact phrasings or methods: do they draw our attention away from the things that really matter?

It's sad to see the church today divided, cos of the different/wrong "gospels" that some believe in, but it's also sad when we differ cos of having the same geists, but different wordings?

Read this from ehlana's blog, am quoting her here:

What does it mean to "know God"?

"And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent"

Jesus' prayer before His arrest and eventual cruxifiction

Every Friday afternoon, some of us gather for EBS (evangelistic Bible study) with a PRC guy, Gao Lu, on the book of John. It's been a wonderful time of learning as well for myself. Sometimes it really helps to read the Bible from the point of view of a non-christian... without any preconceived notions.

Anyway, last Friday, Gao Lu asked us what's the definition of "eternal life". Our staffworker John, quoted him this verse from John 17:3 which I quoted above. To be honest, I have always thought "eternal life" meant something like living forever in heaven together with God. But now, I learnt that it's so much more than that! Eternal life is to know God.

What does it mean to know God? It doesn't mean the usual sense of the word "know". As in, I know you because you are my friend, etc. In Genesis, it says that "Adam knew Eve".... which is talking about an intimate relationship between two people. In this sense, to "know God" here means to have a very close relationship God. It's not about having head knowledge.... not just about "knowing" facts. Anyone may know the facts (Even the Devil acknowledges who God is), but more importantly this knowledge should induce a response to those who know it.

Do I truly know God?

How am I responding to this knowledge?
