Living life God's way with parents

"Would be better to call your mum first to tell her that you're going home soon"

Am reminded once again on how gracious God had been to me in terms of my relation with my mum: the truth about how we should live our family lives, the understanding and conviction that comes only through the Spirit, and even though I had no idea how to go about things, God provided a sister who's able to help me learn. (and is still helping me in various ways)

Now, even though things have improved somewhat as compared to when I started on this, I've still a long way to learn and to improve in relating better to my mum. Not for the sake of being a 'good' person, not for the sake of living life with less stress from home, but simply because this is the only way to live: in thankful obedience to the God who made us and saved us in Christ.

Although I'll never be able to honour my mum perfectly as we were supposed to, but I hope and pray that with God's help, this may also come to be the means through which she understands clearly what it means to be a Christian.

The end of IA

The IA is over! Am really excited abt this being over, so that I can concentrate on preparing the talk for the retreat and all, but somehow feeling a bit sad already at leaving the work place, or the people there to be exact. Especially my project mates and the ones we play table soccer with ;) well,hope to be able to keep in contact with the fellow IA students at least!

Thinking about this...already makes me miss them liao, sort of...

But for now,it's on to killing that bug that was found this morning =S and preparing for the youth retreat!

Going to church can sometimes be a bit of a mixed experience. There's great singing, visuals and friends but the snag comes when we have to sit through a boring talk on the Bible. Inexplicably, it manages to be dry, tedious and devoid of relevance and power. Yet we have a nagging worry that the Bible is necessary and should have a proper place in our Christian lives. But we struggle to figure out what that role is.

Maybe it is one tool among the many God has given us, and we can be free to major on the tool that suits us best?

Maybe it's the advanced tool meant mainly for intellectual people, who are the ones who are able to understand and enjoy it fully?

Maybe it's the tool that gives abstract ideas about God and tips for practical living has to be found from wisdom elsewhere?

This year's PTBC will zoom in on Psalm 119, a psalm that pulsates with love for God's word. The Psalmist's thirst and hunger for God's word challenges our modern, muted response to the Bible. The Psalm initiates us into the delight, comfort and liberation that come from knowing the word of God. In studying it, we might be able to recover something of the joy of engaging with God's word. Along with expositions on Psalm 119, there will also be thematic talks on how the word of God shapes the people of God. There will also be "Berean Small Groups" for the first time, to equip people to read the Bible for themselves.

On Love

Just read The Book of Shadow's post titled Love, True Love. A timely reminder (from the letter to the Corinthians) of what I need to ask God for more of: love, which shows itself in these various ways.

OOP: Yeah, the January post is an indicator of how far back I am in terms of reading some blogs, heh heh.

Okok, enough of drooling.

At Some Point In Time

At some point in time, we were all ignorant of the true and living God. Coming to the same place together no less by God's sovereign control over all things.

At some point in time, we had the great priviledge of hearing God speak through His word, learning about Jesus Christ who is God himself.

At some point in time, we responded to His call at different points of time, to return to Him.

At some point in time, we grew in the knowledge of God, serving Him and others together.

At some point in time, moving on to different contexts, we kept in touch with some, and gradually out of touch with others.

At some point in time, we will stumble and fall. And we will continue to suffer living in a world tainted with man's rebellion against God.

At some point in time, we may or may not come together again for the sake of furthering the kingdom.

At some point in time, we definitely will be reunited when the Judge comes again. Glorified because of what Christ has done for us all.

From that point of time onward, there will be no more tears nor death. And the people of God will live happily ever after, together, with the King as their king.
