Easter gathering

On the evening of Good Friday, we had a dinner gathering at Justin's place. Just to share some pictures that I took with my (horrid) phone camera...

Chen preparing his Tom Yam soup. It was really good =)

Peixian cutting bread for the soup.

The potato thingy that Justin made.

Our 3SG.

Andrew Leong also cooked!

Tom Yum soup..hot?

Yifen trying to prepare to.... Ok, forget what I said.

Amos the 'main chef' there ;)

After the meal, the mad lively singing that ensued...some sang, some relaxed...

And at least one couldn't help but dance there =P

Ergonomics

From the Google doctor's blog, a post about ergonomics (ignore the weird picture at the top of the post =P ) :
A few tips are the following:
--Breaks should be taken every 30-45 minutes for at least 5 minutes. If you need assistance there are free downloadable timers that will help remind you to do so.
--Stretch your arms/hands/neck/back during the breaks. This yoga site demonstrates some samples exercises. Other sites are listed below.
--Posture alignment should be maintained. Don't slouch in the couch with the laptop.
-- Work station should be reviewed initially and with each transfer.
Adjust chair, monitor, keyboard, mouse, laptop. Alternate keyboards and mice periodically.
--Shift your gaze from the computer screen to the distance. Don't forget to blink!
--Limit non-essential computer usage. This may be heresy but give the surfing/gaming/emaling/text messaging a rest.
-- If pain occurs or persists, see your doctor who may recommend wrist brace, ice packs, anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen, cortisone injections, physical therapy, and most importantly rest to allow healing. Do not procrastinate in addressing your symptoms. The sooner the better.

Have been greatly encouraged to see how God's word can change lives, as well as give strength for His people to live lifes His way, bearing up under immense pressure from the world that hates Christ and all who are in Him.

May the (painful, but much needed) lessons stay embedded in my heart, and may my heart not turn as rotten as it had, ever again, with God's help.

Vine's Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words

If you have been to yesternight's Project Timothy's Workshops (Getting More Out Of Your Bible), you'd have heard about this book.

I want one. =P

On another* note, probably we can get one to share within our church or smth.

What is Jesus' Mission?

Have been listening to the sermons titled Simply Christianity for the past few days.

The third sermon in the series is titled "What is Jesus' Mission?" coming from the passage of Luke 15:

Jesus was being critiqued (in the Pharisees' hearts) when he associated himself with the sinners and traitors (tax-collectors) of the time. Just how we'd expect important people to associate with other important people, likewise they expected Jesus ("He's God, isn't he?") to associate with the "holy" people like the religious leaders, not with the common person, much less a sinner and those deemed to be traitors!

Jesus responds with three parables, all explaining the same point, but to different degrees: God's really on about saving the lost. And that's exactly what Jesus came to do.

The third parable about the prodigal son shows the extent of this. God doesn't view us as one in the few billions of people on this earth, but rather rejoices greatly everytime one comes back to Him, and into the kingdom of Christ, like how the father joyously celebrated the prodigal son's return.

Who then, is the prodigal son? It's no other than us who've not acknowledged the one who made us, and have gone about living our lives in rebellion (actively or passively) against Him.

Like the sheep we're helpless in our sin, and can't do anything that's enough to redeem ourselves, that's why we need someone else to help us, and thank God he sent his only Son, to pay the penalty for us, that we might have a restored relationship with the Father, now and forevermore.

Time to consolidate, again

Always have many thoughts that get lost in (null) at the end of the day, as shown from my inability somewhat to remember what happened the day before. And since this blog's a place where I want to consolidate some of my thoughts, as well as let the reader into them somewhat, I guess I'll (try to) start writing more regularly (maybe daily?) at least.

------------------------------------------

Many many things have happened over the past week: some were good, some were bad, some were just simply too saddening to think about sometimes.

Many many times I've failed horrendrously at loving others, just now included, I know.. (it's really easy to hide, just keep silent)

Many times I've disobeyed God, and the warnings have been aplenty and clear, I hope this will change, soon...

Fulfilled in Christ

Father I fear what lies round the corner
already I'm gasping for breath, grasping at straws
I can't see a handspan into the future
I'm scared of what life has in store

But You said do not be anxious about anything
bring all things to you through prayer with thanksgiving
and the peace of God which passes understanding
will guard my heart and mind in Christ
Let the peace of God which passes understanding
guard your heart and mind in Christ

If You feed mere sparrows, dress the lilies in the field
should I fret over tomorrow, my clothing and my needs
these questions find their answer when you gave your Son to die
You've raised him as Lord, we will be glorified

So I will not be anxious for You will provide
all that I need to stand firm in Christ
I will sing in Your presence, I will never be forsaken
for You've given me your Word fulfilled
I will sing in Your presence, I will Never be forsaken
for You've given me your word fulfilled in Christ
Your Word is fulfilled in Christ
fulfilled in Christ
